remembering
on a vacation trip to the bay area, we were enjoying a carefree life on the beach. we would make sand castles, climb rocks, sight see and play all day in sunny california, a trip we took this past fall of 2015. when very suddenly my eldest child became thirsty, very thirsty, a thirst that would not go away. and soon enough he began wetting his pants, often. this is very unlike an almost ten year old boy who has been potty trained for nearly seven years... we called the pediatrician and decided that we should get him seen because he almost certainly has a bladder infection. the nurse agreed with us and thought he has probably does have a bladder infection and he should be seen as soon as we get back from vacation (which was a day away). life went on and we continued to enjoy ourselves on vacation, when we got a call from his doctor, saying that... 'oh no, this sounds much more serious'. so when flew home the next day, and at midnight we took him to the children's hospital. as soon as they saw him and had his blood drawn he was diagnosed with type one diabetes.
my sweet and carefree little boy is insulin dependent.
today i'm remembering a time when my little boy could eat freely without daily injections and the constant worry about being either too high or two low in his blood sugars.
xx,
sam
