remembering

on a vacation trip to the bay area, we were enjoying a carefree life on the beach.   we would make sand castles, climb rocks, sight see and play all day in sunny california, a trip we took this past fall of 2015.  when very suddenly my eldest child became thirsty, very thirsty, a thirst that would not go away.  and soon enough he began wetting his pants, often.  this is very unlike an almost ten year old boy who has been potty trained for nearly seven years... we called the pediatrician and decided that we should get him seen because he almost certainly has a bladder infection.  the nurse agreed with us and thought he has probably does have a bladder infection and he should be seen as soon as we get back from vacation (which was a day away). life went on and we continued to enjoy ourselves on vacation, when we got a call from his doctor, saying that... 'oh no, this sounds much more serious'. so when flew home the next day, and at midnight we took him to the children's hospital.    as soon as they saw him and had his blood drawn he was diagnosed with type one diabetes.

my sweet and carefree little boy is insulin dependent.
today i'm remembering a time when my little boy could eat freely without daily injections and the constant worry about being either too high or two low in his blood sugars.

simple clothing project details, new kicks, and hexies for days

sports bra by nike, black tank top by smart wool

scp (simple clothing project) details:
i hope to share here in this blog space of mine my daily outfits.   my hope is that i bring awareness into what i wear on a daily basis and how i can be mindful in my choices of origin. i believe in the integrity of good quality clothes, but i am also aiming for simplicity- hence 'simple' in my simple clothing project. i don't want fussy. i hope you will all come along with me on my journey to self acceptance and conscience consumerism.

keen shoes in the newport h2 style in poseidon/capri color, red leggings by bowstyle

what any outfit needs is a good pair of high quality footwear. i may start a 'shoe of the day' type post also... its up in the air right now.  bought today from my local rei store are a pair of new keens for the warmer weather we are enjoying these few days! I simply love the design and fit of these!

lastly, you'll find me curled up on the couch most evenings with warm tea and a million hexeies on my lap! i am currently basting 180 1x1 hexagons for a quilt i'm making for valentina this easter. i would love to be able to start piecing this together in the next couple of days.

hoping you are all enjoying the warmer weather and early springtime sun!

strawberry cake, mother earth, and a new project

celebrating early spring with a strawberry cake with fresh whipped cream

honoring mother earth and all of her hard work in preparation for springtime!

happy to start a new project.  i'm titling this as 'simple clothing project' because i want be more aware of how i dress each day- especially as i grow older i want clothing that fits me, is flattering, comfy and stylish, but simple.  here is my first post and picture! my very patient ten-year-old took this picture of me and i love how raw and stark this picture is of me...  even without makeup or a shower feel beautiful. i hope to take a picture each day and i hope you follow along with me on this journey... its a big part of my new sense off self acceptance.
peasant style teal shirt found at target.

i hope you are all enjoying your early days of spring!

springtime doll hat

double dolly pom pom hat rav notes here.

oh yes dolly heads do get very chilly in the days of early spring! while most of day was spent cutting, pressing, and basting 180 hexagons for valentina's easter doll quilt, i did manage to squeeze in some knitting... a daily activity that calms and brings rhythm to my days! a small offering for valentina's doll collection, a bright and sunny cap with two special pompoms.

these colors remind me of a doll hat i made last year with some of my hand-spun.

rav notes here.

i hope you are all keeping your dolly heads warm this early spring season!

first epp quilt

i picked up a curious and bright looking quilting book at the library yesterday and i am smitten!
i've never heard of english paper piecing before and I'm very glad i discovered this because it very much feels intuitive and organic in the way i like to create.  so i'm giving it ago cutting all of my pieces today and hopefully in the quiet evenings as the sun shines longer and longer i can sew this up.  i've decided that this quilt will be for my daughter's dolly and will go into her easter basket this year.

i hope you have a wonderfully bright and quilty kind of day!

a little ball of sunshine

a wonderful little skein of yarn arrived in the mail yesterday and quickly went to work on valentina's birthday gift.  a treasure pouch for her to put all of her little findings and trinkets and gnomes that we collect.  how sweet she is with her little things, things that she so lovingly holds dear. i hope this pretty yarn brightens her days when we take long walks in the forest and hikes in the mountainside.

i hope you have a lovely and bright day too!
